Inspired by Anita Sarkeesian’s Video Game Tropes vs Women, I wanted to pitch a Zelda game where Zelda herself was the hero, rescuing a Prince Link.

Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and is not a reboot, but simply another iteration in the Zelda franchise. It just so happens that in this case, Zelda is the protagonist. I’m a very big Zelda fan, and worked hard to draw from key elements in the continuity and mythos.

This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap.

My step dad is being a total and utter cunt to me and my mum isn’t even sticking up for me.

I’ve done nothing wrong except occupy a space in the same room as him. Which is terrible in his eyes.

I got angry and shouted that he was being rude to me and there was no need to speak to me the way he does all the time like I’m a waste of space.

His response was he can do whatever he wants.

I hate living in this house but I can’t leave as I don’t have the funds for a place of my own and I can’t live by myself anyway because of my epilepsy.

I’m just gonna hide in my room and fume and cry and throw things.

I already feel shit enough about myself, I don’t need someone else telling me how much I fail at life.

A Japanese tabloid caught Minegishi Minami, who is a member of the country’s most popular music group AKB48, leaving the house of a male pop group earlier in January. Today, Minami posted the above video to AKB48’s official YouTube channel in which she apologizes for what she’s done. She also reveals that she’s been demoted within the group and…to punish herself, she has shaved her head.

So this is blowing up on Japanese Twitter right now, as it should be because this is about as terrible as the Japanese music industry gets. For idols like Minami, dating is a humongous red flag as it supposedly ruins the fantasy element at play (many male fans form “connections” with specific members of these groups, so having said member dating/hanging out with other men kills that). Other AKB48 members have been fired for doing the same thing Minami did, but she is popular so she has been spared…though I think what she has had to do is way worse. Shaving your head and then delivering a teary-eyed apology on YouTube while still being demoted?

(Also, if you believe the “she did this on her own free will” line, you should understand nothing about a group like AKB48 operates in such a loose way. This appearing on their official YouTube channel indicates this is endorsed by the people running the show. I also am guessing they told her to shave her head - they’ve had other shamed members of the group do things like run in charity marathons to “redeem” themselves, so this seems like something they’d cook up).

Here’s the dark side of the Japanese-music industry…and to some degree Japan itself, a country ranked 101 in the Global Gender Gap rankings…where young women who want to become pop stars have to do ridiculous shit like this for the terrible crime of…acting like regular human beings. This is some Scarlet Letter type stuff, but sadly common in an entertainment industry that needs major changes.

Only somewhat redeeming thing coming out of this? People on Twitter seem shocked by this, which means AKB48’s management will notice and (maybe? please?) think about not doing stunts like this anymore. If nothing else, they’ll probably remove the video.

UK CONSERVATIVE MP CAMPAIGNS AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE

I originally wrote this on my Facebook page but I’m restating it through Tumblr in the hopes that it will reach more people. I recently received a leaflet posted through my door entitled “South Warrington for Marriage” Initially I was delighted that our local MP was supportive of gay marriage and was promoting it. Oh how wrong I was. The leaflet, it turned out, was designed to make our local community aware of the sanctity of hetero marriage and how the government was trying to destroy it without our knowledge. So, I thought I’d share some “facts” from the leaflet and my outraged response:

“Redefining marriage is undemocratic. This issue wasn’t in any of the main party manifestos at the general election in 2010 and the public consultation was a sham.

Over 620,000 people have signed a national petition against the plans, but they’re being ignored.

It will have a big impact on schools. If marriage is redefined, the new definition will be endorsed in classrooms. What will happen to teachers and parents who disagree? (WTF???!!)

People will be punished for believing in traditional marriage. People’s careers will be damaged if they say marriage is one man to one woman - it’s already happening (???!!)

The Government says churches and religious premises won’t be forced to host gay weddings. But can anyone trust these promises, especially if European judges get involved?

Many gay people oppose redefining marriage. Why is such a monumental change being imposed throughout society?

Although death and divorce may prevent it, the evidence shows that children do best with a married mother and father.

If marriage is redefined once, what is to stop it being redefined to allow polygamy?”

The very fact that this leaflet is even circulating in my local area makes me physically sick with anger.

Marriage should be genderless and only about the love between two people.

Gay couples do not have the same rights as hetero couples when it comes to the difference between marriage and civil partnerships. For example, receiving benefits.

Why is such a monumental change being imposed throughout society?

Because it needs to be imposed. When women were not allowed to vote, when abortions were completely illegal and when interracial couples were not allowed to marry the laws were changed and if I’m not mistaken the world didn’t end and a hell of a lot of people are much happier because of it.

I don’t normally do this sort of post but if you support gay marriage please share this so everyone can see how awful and hateful these people that are running our government really are.

And if you really want to make a difference you can write to this particular MP that decided this campaign was a brilliant idea:
